John McMillan

John McMillan: Acoustic Blues

John's plays and sings blues and soft rock music. He's worked with Suffolk legend Ted Hurrel and was in a band called the Worried Men that played a mixture of skiffle (predictably), blues and rock. He now mostly performs solo.

If he hadn’t wasted his youth, he’d be able to brag about his great A levels. Instead he hung around London clubs watching guys like Eric Clapton and Jack Bruce before they were famous. If he hadn’t wasted it, he wouldn’t have seen blues legend Jimmy Reed play in a pub in Leytonstone. He certainly wouldn’t have got involved in a conversation in the gents in the Marquee with Sonny Boy Williamson.

In the 1970s, he was involved running the folk club in the legendary Putney Half Moon. Here he met many of the leading musicians in the British folk scene and watched many of the country's finest guitarists in action. He now runs the Long Melford Folk Club in Suffolk.
